SALTYKOVSKY is one of the country's first specialized farms which developed and implemented various technologies for breeding fur-bearing animals. Today it breeds three kinds of minks: standard, sapphire-coloured (bright-blue) and "plomino" (light-beige). They are invariably in demand despite the fast-changing situation on the fur market.
The sable farm is the pride of the company. The pelts of Saltykovsky sables are large and have a bright blue colour, and are, besides, very soft. Foreign fur connoisseurs come to international fur auctions, including the one in St.-Petersburg, specially in order to buy the Russian sable. Each year the enterprise produces up to 4,000 sable pelts, about 70,000 mink pelts, 8,000 fox pelts and 5,000 Arctic fox pelts. The company has a collection of vari-coloured foxes unexampled anywhere in the world. SALTYKOVSKY is Russia's first farm which has started breeding the lynx. This animal is not killed for its coat; it is raised and sold for zoos and circuses.
But not only for auctions does the company produce and collect its multicoloured fur wealth: young animals are sold to other fur-producing farms. In SALTYKOVSKY one can buy a fur that took his or her fancy and immediately order, in the local dress-making and tailoring establishment, a hat, a coat and even a furcoat of exclusive designs.
