The first power generating unit of the Kola Nuclear Power Plant was commissioned in 1973. Today the plant comprises four power generating units with the VVER-440 reactors: Unit One and Unit Two built under the V-230 design and Unit Three and Unit Four, built under the V-213 design. The plant's design capacity is 12.1 billion kWh. The Kola Nuclear Power Plant has delivered to users over 200 billion kWh of electric energy so far. On target is the construction of the Kola Nuclear Power Plant-2 which is to replace the operating power generating units upon completion of their service life. The plant's partners include such large power generating enterprises as RAO "EES Rossii", JSC "Kolenergo" and JSC "Karelenergo".

The SE (state enterprise) "Kola Nuclear Power Plant" takes part in the Murmansk Regional Charitable Undertaking "Save the Child" and permanently helps the city of Polyarnyie Zori solve its social questions.
