Established in 1996 by a decree of the President of the Russian Federation, the Federal Aviation Authority of Russia (FAA) is the successor of the former Department of Air Transport. The FAA carries out its responsible tasks as an independent federal body of executive power. It is charged with the responsibility of state control and regulation of the work of civil aviation, as well as organization of air traffic, and it performs authorizing, control and supervisory functions.

The Federal Aviation Authority of Russia is in charge of hundreds of air companies, air traffic control systems and other structures.

The main objective in the work of the Federal Aviation Authority of Russia is to meet the requirements of the national economy and of the country's population in carriage by air.

Ensuring the safety of flights and completely overcoming all sorts of crises in air transport are the top priorities in the work of the FAA, for it was established to protect the interests of its main customer - the passenger.
