UTRISH DOLPHINARIUM LTD.

Moscow

The Utrish Dolphinarium Ltd. was founded on the initiative of the staff of the Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences not long ago. The idea is simple: to bring the "study objects" closer to the research centre and to train them in the rudiments of acting. The "performers" include: a group of Black Sea bottlenose dolphins, a white whale, and several sea lions and fur seals. Ever since 1994 they have been inhabiting the Utrish Dolphinarium in Moscow, in the Palace of Aquatic Sports at 27 Mironovskaya Street, nor far from the Semyonovskaya Metro station. The animals are not only in the service of science; they also earn their "daily bread" by performing in a regular show.

The Utrish Marine Station that once operated in a Black Sea area between Novorossiisk and Anapa, is the base for the Moscow dolphinarium. "Sold-out" notices are common here. Where else can one hear a singing polar whale, and watch acrobatics and dances performed by dolphins, and, moreover, hear a short scientific lecture on those wonderful animals?

Branches of the Utrish Dolphinarium once functioned in Yugoslavia, Israel, Chile and Argentina. More of them were later opened in Gelendjik, Yalta, Rostov-on-Don, on Cyprus and in Egipt. But it is only in Moscow that the "troupe" performs, in all seasons!

There is a popular belief that touching a dolphin brings happiness. Communing with dolphins serves to do away with mental tension and anxiety. These strong animals are peaceable and friendly to man. Do you want to please them? Then come to see them!
