As soon as our country had made the first steps on the way to market economy, we began to remember the glorious traditions of domestic manufacturers. The Ryabushinskies, the Prokhorovs, the Vtorovs, the Abrikosovs, the Mamontovs, the Tretyakovs, the Morozovs. Now many books are dedicated to these Russian clans of industrialists. Some of those books will be rightly included in the golden literature fund of Russian business undertaking. However it is time to say quite a few good words about successors of our rich traditions who set as their major goal not only to increase their personal wealth, but also to aid the revival of Russia.
Capitalizing on the idea of supporting domestic business undertakings, the Media-Holding "ASMO-Press", with the assistance and active involvement of the Moscow Government, the Department of Small Business Development and Support, the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Danube-European Institute - the Organization for International Economic Cooperation, the Moscow Association of Entrepreneurs and the Museum of history of national business undertaking - founded the Russian Business Academy Award DARIN® for business undertakings in the year 1993.
Two times - in 1995 and 1997 - the International Advisory Panel (IAP) nominated as laureates of the National award for business undertaking the best businessmen from the Moscow economic region. At the beginning of February, 1999, IAP met again to determine 50 laureates - companies, organizations and enterprises whose activities impact upon the development of market relations and the general economic situation in the Moscow region in a most remarkable way.
The members of the Advisory Panel are: director of the Institute of Systems Analysis attached to the Russian Academy of Sciences, academician Jermen Gvishiani, minister of the Moscow Government, head of the Department of Small Business Development and Support Yevgeny Yegorov, president of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry Yury Kotov, chairman of the Board of the Moscow Entrepreneur Association Andrey Podenok and other respectable representatives of business circles.
There were several stages in the process of selecting competitors for the title of laureate. At the first stage branch-wise associations of manufacturers, ministries and departments submitted to the ASMO-Press analytic centre the worthiest candidates - 400-500 contenders in several nominations. From this group experts had to select the best 100. They did not restrict themselves to the study of the production showing of certain enterprises, but rather took interest in business ethical and moral standards, traditions and the public stand of an entrepreneur.
